Good quality cotton like Egyptian cotton certainly feels lovely to the touch, but cotton has very different properties to silk.
Silk is non-abrasive and reduces friction by up to 43%. If your skin is prone to rashes, inflammation or eczema, it’s gentler to sleep on than cotton because it won’t rub or snag, and it’s lightweight and soft.
Cotton absorbs moisture which can leave your skin and hair dehydrated, dry and frizzy. It also sucks in dirt and bacteria which can be transferred back to your hair and skin leading to acne and break-outs.
Silk, on the other hand, is much less absorbent than cotton so it won’t soak up your skin’s natural moisture. It’s hypoallergenic and anti-microbial so it’s more hygienic and better for people who suffer with allergies.
As it’s less absorbent, silk won’t soak up any creams, moisturisers and serums that you apply overnight. They’ll stay exactly where you want them to stay – on your skin.
